Operations (1945-2006): Movements
A public performance installation combining ballet and poetry to express the scale of 20th century military operations by UN-member nations. Premiered as part of Toronto’s Nuit Blanche in 2018.
Based on Canadian poet Moez Surani’s "حملة Operación Opération Operation 行动 Oперация" (Book*hug 2016), the performance embodies the 3600 unique military operation names as pieces of ballet choreography. Performed over a grass field, the choreography is repeated once for every operation over 3600 times in a twelve-hour period, creating a physical memorial in the space and serving as a collected archive.
The piece premiered in 2018 as part of Nuit Blanche Toronto.
